Barnfield- The Lawrence Jacket

I met Mark, the owner of Barnfield quite recently through mutual friends, and immediately clicked. With such similar tastes in skateboarding, motorcycles, and media, it made sense that our paths would eventually cross, and when they did, cool things would happen! Funnily enough… it turned out we are basically neighbours.

Speaking to Mark about The Lawrence Jacket and Barnfield, I not only saw the passion Mark brought to the brand, but also his excitement and willingness to stand behind the product Barnfield has created in The Lawrence Jacket. It oozes quality, style, and history, inspired by military jackets of times past.

Barnfield has no interest in becoming a giant company. It instead focuses on small, quality runs of garments, which Mark and the company can stand behind. Barnfield’s story sums this up best by stating “not only does that approach [of low quality large production] fly in the face of all the evidence that's laid out in front of us every day demonstrating our impact on the planet, it just doesn't feel right. I want to be proud of every single piece of clothing that we produce and for me, the only way to do that is to focus on quality and attention to detail”.

Photographing the jacket was so much more than your typical product shoot. It was being able to capture and tell a story. A lifestyle of adventure, which obviously is born from the motorcycles we ride and the freedom they provide. Motorcycles are a form of transportation providing generations of stories, from the moving of troops quickly on the battlefield, racing and mans’ aim to hit ‘the ton’, to the custom scene, which brings so many like minded enthusiasts together.

My photographs and video therefore attempted to capture the cultural and emotional feelings that owning a motorcycle (and looking stylish on one) offers.
